Hanover is a Grade II listed building situated on Corporation Street in Manchester. Refurbished by Russells Construction, CWC spent seven years working on the project.
The completed building provides 90,000 sq ft of Grade A office space with retail accommodation occupying the ground and basement levels. A central atrium space connected by bridges forms an impressive entrance to this landmark building in the NOMA neighbourhood.
Working with the NOMA team, Workman, Sheppard Robson and Buro Happold, CWC have been involved in the scheme from the outset. Taking the project up to Stage 3, we continued to provide a client / site monitoring role up to completion.
As a listed building the refurbishment presented several challenges. The project was required to meet BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standards and be energy efficient, whilst maintaining the architectural heritage of the building. Lack of roof space and a desire to retain original ceiling features led to the scheme including one of the few water cooled down flow unit underfloor air conditioning systems in the country.
In recognition of the team’s achievements in this area, the project won the Hermes Responsible Property Investors Refurbishment of the Year Award for 2018.
Tech giant Amazon have taken six storeys of office space in the building. It is the company’s first UK corporate office outside of London, positing itself to be a key player in Manchester’s growing tech scene.
