Hanover started life as two buildings, both built by the Co-operative Group in the early 20th Century. Bridges now connect the former warehouse and office spaces within an impressive covered atrium which forms the heart of the redevelopment.

CWC provided full M&E services from feasibility to design and construction monitoring.

As a listed building the refurbishment presented several challenges. The project was required to meet BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standards and be energy efficient, whilst maintaining the original character of the building. The desire to retain the original ceiling features, coupled with lack of roof space, led to the scheme including one of the few water cooled down flow unit underfloor air conditioning systems in the country.

The result is a seamless blend of historic character and contemporary functionality.

Tech giant Amazon took six storeys of office space here in 2019. It is the company’s first UK corporate office outside of London, positing itself to be a key player in Manchester’s growing tech scene.
